The new Geoscan cubesats are in orbit and have made contact
On November 5, 2024, at 02:18 Moscow time, five nanosatellites based on the updated Geoscan 3U platform were launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome as part of the Space-π project.
Intriguing picture taken by the ReshUCube-1
Mission Control Center of the Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology took an exceptional picture. At first glance the photo looks like the one from Mars, but it’s the picture of the planet Earth, one of the Australian regions. Numerous cumulus clouds declassify the Earth's surface of the image, because although there is cloud cover (and even precipitation!) on the red planet, but not that much.
It is noteworthy that Mars has its distinctive color due to the high iron content in the dust that surrounds the surface of the planet everywhere. Iron is oxidized and acquires a reddish-red color. Because of this phenomenon, the iron-rich soil of Australia also turns red, part of the territory of which was captured by the small ReshUCube-1 satellite.
