Satellite of the Tyumen State University is dedicated for environmental monitoring of the Tyumen region. The spacecraft was assembled as part of the project of remote diagnostics of the troposphere and water reservoirs by satellite infrared thermometry. The payload was developed at the Moscow State University Research Institute of Nuclear Physics.

UTMN-2 will take pictures of clouds and lakes so scholars will be able to remotely determine their temperature and contribute to improving the reliability of weather forecasts.

The satellite is also planned to be used as part of the «Smart City» system. Space data allows you to find a free parking lot, forecast traffic jams, see the scale of certain natural phenomena.
