Near–Earth space is an aggressive environment. Spacecraft are affected by cosmic dust and solar radiation, ion wind and high-energy particles. Also, near–Earth space is overwhelmed with space debris generated by meteoric activity and non-functioning spacecraft. Collision of spacecraft generates hundreds of micro and nanoobjects, so-called dust clouds moving at great speed. This poses a huge danger to spacecraft.
The satellite of the Orel State University will study the conditions and factors in space that affect the surface of the spacecraft itself.
After being launched into orbit, Nanosonde-1 will scan the surface of the gold mirror with nanometer accuracy, which is exposed to the entire spectrum of impacts of outer space. Images of surfaces will be transmitted by radio to Earth so that specialists can assess the processes of destruction of materials in space conditions.
